MICAELA SUMMERS | Bregitta Fölmli

Micaela is an artist based in the outskirts of Lucerne in Switzerland.

After moving with her family many years, living in Sweden, USA and Argentina, she settled in Switzerland and began taking oil painting lessons in 2011. She quickly discovered a passion for it.

She took courses throughout the years with different teachers, working in other mediums and learning new techniques. Her current genre of choice are landscapes and florals, inspired by nature, her surroundings, places she has visited, and music.

Her work is Realistic yet Naïve evoking life, moods, and innocence. What she enjoys mostly, is the mixing and creation of colours to express what she sees and perceives. Micaela holds a BBA.

Artist Statement

I search for the colors and different hues in many of the things I encounter during my day. It is a habit that I have developed during the years since my very first art lesson. When I see a landscape or a scene which captures my attention, I have this urge feeling to recreate it in my own words and colors.

When I create my artworks, I immerse into this world where I get lost and forget about everything around me, except for the music playing in the back (which I always have) and I stay in there, creating and discovering hues with my oil paints in my palette until I finish. And then, then I find myself exhausted.

My body of work begins with drawings moving later into the recreation of my idea on the canvas. I mostly work with oil paints. My artwork tends to be Realistic. However, sometimes I lean to a “Naïve” art; I find it innocent, calming and peaceful.

Im Fokus dieser Ausstellung steht die Daumendrucktechnik, eine Form des Handaufbaus. Diese sichtbare Handschrift verleiht den Gegenständen eine besondere Qualität, sowohl ästhetisch als auch haptisch. Die daraus entstehenden Stücke sind Unikate mit individueller Ausstrahlung und leiser Präsenz. Nach ihrem Entstehen werden sie in einem neunstündigen Gasbrand fertiggestellt. Dies ist ein intensiver Prozess, der Material, Feuer, Sauerstoff und Zeit in einem Gleichgewicht zusammenbringt. Die Objekte sollen Momente der Ruhe ermöglichen, im Alltag als stiller Begleiter dienen und uns für kurze Zeit mit einem Gefühl der Präsenz verbinden.
